Gold wash Pan Instructions:
Step #1
Place the gold-containing material in the pan until it is 1/2 to 2/3 full.
Sink the pan so it is just below the surface of the water. Now stir the pan roughly in a circular or zigzag motion.
This process releases gold particles trapped in dirt or clay and brings larger stones to the surface.
Step #2
Remove larger stones and check the ore for possible gold inclusions.
Step #3
The removal of stone classifies the remaining material to make its particle size more uniform, thus improving the gold recovery process.
As in the first stage, stir the ingredients under water again, but now more gently.
The gold is clean at this point, we just let the gold sink through the sand and impoverish the surface material.
Step #4
You are now ready to start washing off this barren, gold-free substance.
Tilt the pot forward slightly, say 10 to 15 degrees from the horizontal,and push the pot forward into the water,creating a wave that washes over the entire surface of the pot and,as it recesses,carries away some of the barren sand and gravel.Continue whisking for 5 to 10 seconds,then two to three more times,until there is only half a cup or less of the heavy ingredients left in the pan.
Step #5
The remaining heavy materials will vary depending on the minerals other than gold found in the riverbed you are working on.Most commonly,these minerals are black,and your heavy deposit is usually a fine "black sand" arc.
A good nugget will appear at this point and should be removed,but fine flakes and dust will remain hidden under the black sand.
The technique for separating the gold from the black sand is to pour about half a cup of water into a pot and roll it gently,
allowing the water to wash the black sand away from the gold.
With practice, you will find that each grain of gold can be separated from the "heavy quality" using this technique.
